NRTC Webinars and Podcasts: Employment Insights with the NRTC

The National Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision (NRTC) has launched a webinars and podcasts series called Employment Insights.

This series focuses on enhancing employment outcomes for individuals who are blind or have low vision (B/LV). The target audience for the webinars and podcasts are B/LV individuals who are navigating the vocational rehabilitation process, just beginning to consider careers, or seeking to gain or maintain employment.

Our first webinar, “Navigating the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) System: Services are Better When We Work Together,” focused on the role of counselors and consumers when receiving VR services. Led by Cantrice Moffitt, NRTC Rehabilitation Training and Outreach Specialist, this webinar brought together a group of panelists of both VR consumers and counselors. With a great turnout in attendance, our panelists shared how the process of receiving VR works and what to expect as a consumer.

Our latest webinar, “Who Needs to Know?: When and How to Disclose Vision Impairment,” discussed the implications and benefits of disclosure in the workplace. Each of our panelists had a different level of vision loss and was able to share their disclosure strategies and experiences. You can view the archive of that webinar here.

The NRTC has released two podcast episodes that relate to employment challenges and achievements in gaining employment. Sylvia Stinson-Perez serves as the host for our podcast. In each episode, we invite a guest who is B/LV to talk about their employment journey. Listeners will receive job search tips and hear about failures on the job and how to overcome them, and success stories of how individuals have maintained and advanced in employment.

The first two podcast episodes are available on our Webinars and Podcasts page. The next episodes will be posted in early February and early March. We plan to record four additional podcast episodes this year.
