- American Council of the Blind. The Council strives to improve the well-being of all blind and visually impaired people by: serving as a representative national organization of blind people; elevating the social, economic and cultural levels of blind people; improving educational and rehabilitation facilities and opportunities; cooperating with the public and private institutions and organizations concerned with blind services; encouraging and assisting all blind persons to develop their abilities and conducting a public education program to promote greater understanding of blindness and the capabilities of blind people.
- National Federation of the Blind. The purpose of the National Federation of the Blind is two-fold: to help blind persons achieve self-confidence and self-respect and to act as a vehicle for collective self-expression by the blind. By providing public education about blindness, information and referral services, scholarships, literature and publications about blindness, aids and appliances and other adaptive equipment for the blind, advocacy services and protection of civil rights, development and evaluation of technology, and support for blind persons and their families, members of the NFB strive to educate the public that the blind are normal individuals who can compete on terms of equality.
- American Foundation for the Blind. AFB promotes wide-ranging, systemic change by addressing the most critical issues facing the growing blind and visually impaired population: employment, independent living, literacy, and technology.
- National Center for the Dissemination of Disability Research. NCDDR performs research, technical assistance and demonstration activities focusing on the dissemination and utilization of disability research funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).
- National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress. The mission of the NLS is to provide program users, librarians, and the public a wide range of access to NLS publications, program information, and bibliographic data.
- JAN (Job Accomodation Network). JAN's mission is to facilitate the employment and retention of workers with disabilities by providing employers, employment providers, people with disabilities, their family members and other interested parties with information on job accommodations, self-employment and small business opportunities and related subjects. JAN's efforts are in support of the employment, including self-employment and small business ownership, of people with disabilities. JAN represents the most comprehensive resource for job accommodations available.
- National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC). NARIC's online database provides disability- and rehabilitation-oriented information organized in a variety of formats designed to make it easy for users to find and use.
- National Industries for the Blind. NIB's mission is to enhance the opportunities for economic and personal independence of people who are blind primarily through creating, sustaining and improving employment.
- Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER). AER is the only international membership organization dedicated to rendering all possible support and assistance to the professionals who work in all phases of education and rehabilitation of blind and visually impaired children and adults.
- Sowell Center. The Virginia Murray Sowell Center for Research and Education in Visual Impairment, prepares specialists in visual impairment, orientation and mobility, and deafblindness. It promotes quality research to address the academic and social needs of school-age students with visual impairments and provides public service to assist local, national, and international constituencies. The Center offers degree and certification programs in visual impairment, orientation and mobility, and deafblindness.
